We wanted to give everyone an opportunity to write about the things they DISLIKE about Pugs. Even though we're fanatics, we're also honest enough to admit we don't like every single trait of the breed. Please take the time to answer honestly. If you have multiple traits you dislike, you can vote for one every day. Thanks for participating!

Survey: Where Is Your Pug From?

In light of the situation with Kentuckiana Pug Rescue, we wondered just where folks normally get their pugs from. Who bought their dogs to show? Who bought from a pet store (the survey is anonymous)? Who got their pug from a shelter? Or a formal rescue group? They're all deserving of loving homes. And while you're thinking about it, this would be a great time to make a donation to your local rescue or animal shelter. They need our help.

Pugs In East Atlanta Strut Parade

SEPRA - South East Pug Rescue and Adoption - will have a float with rescue Pugs in the East Atlanta Strut Parade on Saturday, September 18th at 2pm. You are welcome to come out and march with them, or just stand on the sidelines and cheer them on!

If you are interested in meeting or marching, contact SEPRA through their website at www.pugrescue.com, or meet up near the Ace Hardware in east Atlanta.

Don't forget that you can also support SEPRA and Pug rescue through the SEPRA Store online where you will find all sorts of pug-related items. Shipping is FREE for most items, and for every dollar spent, a portion of your purchase goes directly to SEPRA to continue to help save pugs.

Southeast Pug Rescue & Adoption, Inc. (SEPRA) was formed in Georgia in 1990 to aid in placing lost, surrendered or abandoned pugs in loving, caring homes primarily in the Southeast (GA, FL, SC, TN, MO). Although, we will take any pug in need from any place.

We are an all volunteer, 501(c)(3), not for profit organization dedicated to our pugs. SEPRA will take any and all pugs regardless of age, health and/or temperament, and we've even been known to take pug mixes. Our pugs come from a variety of avenues including shelters, owner surrenders, and even found wandering down the streets.

All pugs are placed in foster care with dedicated volunteers for evaluation and vet-work, which includes: shots, spaying/neutering and treatment for any illnesses, if necessary. We've had many come through with heartworms, knee/hip problems, eye problems, broken limbs etc. We will treat all that is reasonably possible as long as the pug is not suffering. All donations are tax-deductible.

A new survey is posted, asking about exercise and your Pugger. Does your Pug get any exercise? Is it planned, or random? Or is tracking the foodbowl about as much exercise as it gets? As usual, it's all in fun - but we are curious on this one.

Looking Back and Forward

When Pugs.Com was started in June of 1996, I never realized how much it would grow, or how popular the Pug breed would become. Back then, I was just an owner with a serious interest in the breed: how it came about, what the issues it had were, how to make them better pets, the pitfalls and joys of breeding, puppy breath, and how to help them stay out of shelters and in their forever homes. Pugs had already experienced a first major influx of new people when a Pug won Best In Show at the famous Westminster Kennel Club more than a decade earlier. But the Internet was a new place, with lots of people contributing information that was often simply self-promoting or worse, well intentioned but simply not true. I wanted a spot where Pug information was available without people feeling they were being pressured into making a purchase or being given information that was often hearsay.

So I started writing articles about what I knew, what I did, how I did it, and why. They weren't intended to make people buy a puppy, choose a specific brand of food, use a special harness or even buy from a specific breeder. Instead it was about my own experiences: what worked for me, and how to make it work for them if they wanted to. Along the way I was asked to help co-author a book about Pugs (out of print now, so no, not an attempt to get someone to buy it! *grin*) which was certainly an honor. And as I wrote, I learned more and more, and in turn, wrote more for the site.

Since then things have certainly grown: Pugs.Com has over one hundred pages of static content, almost five thousand photos in the new photo gallery, hundreds of thousands of forum messages on topics from health to breeding to ownership, from the outlandish to the mundane, over 38,000 registered users - we're ranked in the top 150,000 most active web sites on the internet! That's saying a lot about the Pug breed and the interest there is in it. There are a couple other dedicated Pug people who contribute to the running and content these days. We've seen the Internet grow in that time period to include hundreds of Pug web sites, each with their own 'flavor' and approach to information. From static pages to server composed pages, HTML to CSS, search engines and IRC and social networking to viral marketing. We are well into a new way of producing and learning information - in just over a dozen years.

It's New, It's Different, It's FAST

Yes, this is PugsCom - but it looks DIFFERENT! We moved servers, we updated software, and we are slowly getting back to everything running smoothly. Things work pretty much like they did, but probably 200% faster than before.

Once we get the kinks ironed out, we'll be going back and fixing some formatting, adjusting some of the categories, and then we have LOTS of new information to add based on what you, the members and guests have asked for over the years.

We hope you like the new look, and the new speed. We'll be getting some old favorites back up and available soon, for those who prefer more colorful sites.

Thanks for your patience, come on in, poke around, set a spell and join us as we talk about what has to be the most expressive face in the canine world: that of the Pug!
