Our 3 yr. old Gus started leaving us little "surprises" about a month ago while we were at work. We thought it was due to the fact that it was so cold out at the time & he didn't get it all out before we left for work in the morning. Then it warmed up and now he's still doing it. We are not sure what his problem is. We think he might just be "mad" at us for leaving him. Him & his brother Tug are home alone 3 days a week. They go to doggie daycare 2 days a week. The days they are home, they get walked for a good 30 minutes in the morning and another 30 at night. They are home alone for about 9 hrs. We have not had this problem since he was a puppy and we were potty training him. Any suggestions? He is neutered. We feed them the same amount of food at the same times every day. Help!
Thank you!!!

If he is going outside once before work and you are still having a poop present in the house- I would set up a smaller area for him with a puppy pad- so hopefully he will go on that. If you don't want him going at all inside- your only option would be crating. Depending on the food you are feeding- 9 hours may be too long for him to hold it. Some foods make bulkier and more often poos for some dogs. Mine used to poo pretty big size poos 2-3 times a day- and now on their raw patties and no grain kibble- they only go once a day in the morning.

Hi,
I have a 2 year old bitch who we love to bits but I have never known a dog to be so difficult to house train. I have an 8 year old lab who was brilliant and is still a very clean dog. After many months of training the pug she is very good during the day but every morning for the last 3 months when I come downstairs she has either had a wee or a poo! I don't know what else to try - we have tried feeing her earlier so she does all her business before bed - we let her out around 10pm and still she is making a mess.
She also leaves a mess if we go out for more than about 3 hours (which is rare).

i think when the babies poop in the house, it's not about being mad at you or anyone else...i think that pugs are a small breed dog and they are not so easy to house train.
when i leave the house, my dogs are crated, even the one that is the perfect dog....mainly because i don't ever want to set them up for failure....
when i'm sleeping, if my dog doesn't sleep with me, he sleeps in a kennel....or crate...he is safe there and will learn not to poo where he sleeps or eats....and everyone is happy and doesn't wake up to surprises.

We had a similar problem with Atilla for a few weeks when he turned 3. Instead of leaving him baby gated in the living room we started gating him in the bathroom, problem solved. Then after a few days of no accidents we let him back into the living room and he has been fine. Hopefully restricting his space will work for you.
